Book review: Birthmarked by Caragh O'Brien

for my very first book review on this blog I thought I would start with a book I could not put down.

This is one of the very few books that i bought on my kindle with the intentions of getting around to reading it at some point, that I started to read that morning and failed to do anything else that day because I couldn't put this book down!

Goodreads sums the plot up so well:
In the future, in a world baked dry by the harsh sun, there are those who live inside the walled Enclave and those, like sixteen-year-old Gaia Stone, who live outside. Following in her mother’s footsteps Gaia has become a midwife, delivering babies in the world outside the wall and handing a quota over to be "advanced" into the privileged society of the Enclave. Gaia has always believed this is her duty, until the night her mother and father are arrested by the very people they so loyally serve.

Now Gaia is forced to question everything she has been taught, but her choice is simple: enter the world of the Enclave to rescue her parents, or die trying.

A stunning adventure brought to life by a memorable heroine, this dystopian debut will have readers racing all the way to the dramatic finish.

This is a young adult book with a strong dystopian theme running through it although i would not suggest it for younger readers.

I fell in love with Gaia at the start of the book because of how likable she is and how sweet and innocent she seems but I found myself loving her more the deeper into the book I got. She has to deal with alot of life changing things which make her such a good main character in this book.

I found this book very well written and easy to sink into. I would reccomendthis book to anyone who liked the hunger games trilogy, divergent or the forest of hands and teeth.

This book is currently retailing for £5.19 here

If you have a any books that you would like me to read and review let me know in the comments below and I will try my best to read them. =]

It's Monday! What are you reading?

So as the title says its Monday! so I'm going to take the opportunity now to plan my reading week. I am not going to make it a rule to finish these books because with work and babysitting and a long term relationship it would be impossible to finish these books this week, i just want to read a little more of them so lets begin:

First of all is Game of thrones by George R R Martin. I started this book a while back when my sister in law told me about it but at first i couldn't get into it, then i just forgot about it and now I'm in love with it again. I hope to read a few more chapters this week. I really hope I have the time!

Next some of you might be shocked to see that I want to read more of Harry Potter and the half-blood prince. Don't worry I have already read the whole Harry Potter series about 7 times and I'm just re-reading them all again on my kindle because I love these books so much. I will probably end up reading most if not all of this book this week.

Finally last but by no means least is the forest of hands and teeth. I have been reading this book for a little while now and keep drifting in and out of it but at the moment I find that it's dragging. But I am on a mission and I want to finish this book before the summer holidays from work. So I wish to read at least another chapter of this book this week.

what books would you like to read some of this week? Feel free to leave your answer in the comments below =]

This or That tag!

This or that Tag

As this is my first post on this blog I thought it might be nice to start of with a book tag, so here it is:

1. Audio or book in hand:
Defiantly book in hand, I like to see the words and language that the author uses, although I listen to the harry potter audio books if i can't sleep.

2. Soft cover or hardback:
Soft cover normally because they are lighter so i can put them in my hand bag. I like hard backs for brand new or very large books so there easier to hold.

3. Fiction or non-fiction:
Fiction because it allows you to be completely submerged into a story that could never be true.

4. Fantasy world or real life issues:
Fantasy normally, but i love Cathy Glass and Torey Hayden books.
5. Harry potter or twilight:
This is a no brainer, Harry Potter by far. i feel in love with the Harry Potter series when i was 8 years old and the books i have to thank for my love of reading.
6. Kindle, I-pad or other:
Kindle. I don't know how i managed before i had my kindle.
7. Borrow or buy:
Borrow if I'm near the library if not i will buy on my kindle.
8. Bookstore on online:
Online is so much cheaper but there is a small second hand book store in the local town so i will buy there sometimes to.
9. Tell me onetime or total trilogy:
It depends really if the story can be complete in one book if not then defiantly more than one book.

10. Monster read or short and sweet:
Monster read. i love having a really large story to read.
11. Starry eyed romance or full of action:
A romance that has some action in it. Although i do like a girly romance.
12. Curl up in your snuggie or bathe in the sun:
I burn at the thought of sun so curl up in my snuggie.

13. Hot chocolate or latte:
Hot chocolate

14. Read the review or decide for yourself:
